The first suicide i will bring to you, is one i saw recently in "The Royal Tenenbaums" by the marvelous Wes Anderson. Eventhough the genius of this film is undeniable, it is the suicide Scene that really got to me. I think it shows real talent, not only the actoring skills, but also the ever sad sound of Elliot Smiths soft voice in the backround make this scene very intence.
Comapred to alot of boring Hollywood suicides, this one is so soft and beautiful, there's no tradgic crying and shouting, just the silent refelction of all the loneliness in him. The hair cutting also puts alot of meaning in this moment. It reminds me alot of this Scene in "The Wall", where Pink shaves off his whole Hair. This obvious wink in direction of the Pink Floyd film underlines the barriers these Characters bild up around themselves, and the hopelessnes of their situation. Hair, due to Maria Magdalena, is one of the eldest symbols for unconditional love, and Richie shaving it because of Margot is a very powerfull love declaration.
On a more Technical note, the Blue filter used in this scene cleary distances itself from the very warm colored filters usually used in this film.
All in all, this suicide shows the loneliness of this character in a very artfull way, with alot of love for details, where music, colors, actors and symbols create the most perfect picture of a world, where people only long for the one person they can never get to hold them thight.
